Practice
Advisory, research and ventures.
Three practices that share one discipline: understand the market properly, then act on what you find. Clients can engage one practice or move between them as a question develops.
Advisory
For founders, owners and leadership teams facing a decision that matters: where to compete, how to enter, what to build and what to stop.
We work alongside you as an outside team. We bring structure to the question, find the evidence that settles it, and give you a recommendation you can defend to a board, a partner or yourself.
Typical questions
- Should we enter this market, and in what order?
- Which of these three opportunities deserves the next year?
- How should the business be organized to grow from here?
- What would we need to believe for this plan to work?
What you receive
- A written recommendation with the reasoning behind it
- The options considered and why the others lost
- A working session to test it with your team
- A practical plan for the first ninety days
Research
Independent studies of industries in transition: where technology, regulation, capital or customer behavior is shifting faster than the existing players.
Our research is commissioned by clients or started on our own initiative. Either way it is built to be used: a short summary up front, the detail behind it, and every source shown so you can check our work.
Research we do
- Industry landscapes and value-chain maps
- Market sizing and demand assessment
- Competitor and business-model analysis
- Feasibility studies for a new product, service or entry
- Regulatory and policy scans, read for their commercial impact
How we choose what to study
- The rules of the market are changing
- Good information is scarce or scattered
- The answer would change what someone decides to do
Ventures
Research tells you where the openings are. Sometimes the right response is to build something.
We start and operate new businesses of our own where our research points to a clear opportunity. We also partner with operators who have the market knowledge and want a partner for the research, planning and early build.
What a venture gets from us
- The market work done first, before money is spent
- A business plan tested against real numbers
- Help with structure, operations and launch
- A partner who stays involved after launch
How partnerships work
Every venture is structured on its own terms, agreed in writing before work starts. Depending on the venture that can be a fee, an equity or revenue share, or a combination.
